Jungle Lion | English Education in Kaohsiung: English-Only Small Classes for Ages 4 to Grade 12
Jungle Lion is an English school in Sanmin District, Kaohsiung. We teach children from age 4 to Grade 12 in small classes taught entirely in English by international teachers (the one exception is Reading Taiwan, taught in Mandarin). In-person classes have 6–10 children each and meet at our Baozhong Main Campus, our Yichang Branch, or online by Zoom. The campus for each class follows the timetable.

OUR APPROACH
What makes English education at Jungle Lion different?
Three things: English-only lessons from international teachers, small classes of 6–10 children, and a dedicated Google Site learning record for every class.
01 English-only lessons, no Mandarin-speaking assistant
English is the language of every lesson.
All courses are taught entirely in English by international teachers. The only exception is Reading Taiwan (geography literacy class), taught in Mandarin. We do not add a Mandarin-speaking assistant teacher, so children do not come to rely on Mandarin. To learn more about this approach, see our page on immersive English teaching in Kaohsiung.
02 Small classes: 6–10 in person, 4–6 online
Small classes, real conversations.
In-person classes have 6–10 children and online classes have 4–6. Reading Taiwan (geography literacy class) has a limit of 8, the only exception among online classes.
03 A dedicated Google Site learning record for every class
Progress you can see.
Every class has its own Google Site. It holds children's homework-sharing videos, pronunciation and grammar reminders, each week's feedback from the teacher, mid-term and final report videos, rubrics, observation notes and photos from class activities.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What ages is Jungle Lion for?
Jungle Lion welcomes children from age 4 to Grade 12. Our courses run from A0 phonics, reading and writing to Cambridge English, English debate and academic seminars, and we place each child in a class that matches their level.
Are lessons taught completely in English? Will my child understand?
Yes. All courses are taught entirely in English by international teachers; the only exception is Reading Taiwan (geography literacy class), taught in Mandarin. We do not add a Mandarin-speaking assistant teacher, so children do not come to rely on Mandarin. Before a child joins, we check their level and place them in a suitable class.
Do we need to take a test before our first visit?
You can choose one of three options: show a Cambridge English score, tell us your child's Lexile reading level, or book a one-on-one test on site. The on-site test takes 15 minutes, is free and is given by a teaching supervisor. New students can also book a paid single-lesson trial.
How are fees calculated? How much is a trial lesson?
Regular courses are charged per lesson: NT$380 for a 1-hour lesson, NT$550 for a 1.5-hour lesson, and NT$600 for a 1.5-hour lesson at B1 level. New students pay the same price for a single-lesson trial. Cambridge English coaching classes, English debate and Reading Taiwan (geography literacy class) are priced separately; please ask us on LINE.
How many children are in each class?
In-person classes have 6–10 children and online classes have 4–6. Reading Taiwan (geography literacy class) has a limit of 8, the only exception among online classes.
Where does Jungle Lion hold classes in Kaohsiung?
Both campuses are in Sanmin District, Kaohsiung: the Baozhong Main Campus (No. 155, Baozhong St.) and the Yichang Branch (No. 40, Yichang Rd.), about 260 meters or a 4-minute walk apart. Each class's campus (Baozhong, Yichang or online by Zoom) follows the timetable. English debate, international geopolitics, Reading Taiwan and all Cambridge English coaching classes are online Zoom classes.
Can my child make up a lesson after an absence?
Regular classes do not refund missed lessons, but within 2 months of the absence you can book an in-person make-up in another class of the same level, or request the recording of that day's lesson. Phonics does not arrange make-ups in other classes: for every 10 lessons, the first absence is refunded and later absences are not, but we provide the recording of that lesson free of charge.
What are your opening hours?
Hours at both campuses: Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 16:30–21:00; Wed 15:30–21:00; Sat 08:30–12:30. On Tuesdays the Yichang Branch stays open until 21:30.
